I’m so glad that things have opened up and we can enjoy live performance again! Here’s the demo reel for the animated backdrops I did for Hansel & Gretel which was performed on Dec 4, 2022. Went a little more painterly on this one. Trying to carry on the tradition of wonderful painted illustrations to go with our favorite fairy tales. Its been ten years now working with Boheme Opera NJ and its always a joy.
Joe and Sandy from Boheme Opera NJ first contacted me in 2012 to create animated backdrops for The Magic Flute. It was a fascinating challenge. Its by Mozart and happens in ancient Egypt so you get all those cool Egyptian bits I love so much! So I dove in. Also there’s a nice family connection. My dad’s parents actually met while they were pro opera singers and I’ve been aware of opera from an early age.
So it worked wonderfully and we keep doing it! Every year since I’ve done animated backdrops for their main yearly production. We’ve done Carmen, La Boheme, Faust and Aida (More Egyptian YAY!!!) just to name a few. We keep trying to vary the style and do something new with it every time. Here’s a few examples of the loops and a bunch of pics.
The Magic Flute was way back in 2012 and I was in the midst of trying to adapt to Blender from 3D Studio MAX and was also fairly new to video editing so I was still learning. I’m very proud of the result but check out the Aida backdrops too- they’re WAY better.
More FX than you can shake a stick at! I was so lucky to get to do the visual effects for this film and I loved doing it but it was a LOT of work! I handled about 90% of the effects shots you see here- and the ones you don’t see too. Everything from adding muzzle flashes and bullet holes to doing the whole top quarter of Bernie’s head. I’m so proud of the work I did but also its an AWESOME movie! A ton of fun! Check it out. I know you’ll love it.
Tons of thanks to Michael Leavy and everyone at Fuzz On The Lens Productions– You guys were wonderful to work with!
Demo reel coming soon!
Or better yet go watch the movie! Its available now right HERE and its AWESOME!!!
From 2004-2008 I was Creative Director for a free arts and entertainment night life magazine in New Haven, CT. It was a brand new publication with a very small crew and we built it entirely from scratch. You couldn’t ask for a better learning experience. I worked with and met some truly amazing people and am very proud of the work we all did. Sadly, like so many publications, the magazine didn’t survive, but it was time to move on anyway so it all worked out well.
Here’s a taste of the huge mountain of work I did on it.
